EXPRESS: Deadly Jermain Defoe at Double to Sink Fulham

03 Dec
2012

TOTTENHAM’S Champions League hopes were back on track after another deadly double from Jermain Defoe. Andre Villas-Boas has compared Defoe to Radamel Falcao and the England striker is giving Spurs a real chance of getting back in the top four.

Sandro’s shot was palmed into the net by Mark Schwarzer for the opener and Defoe did the rest, taking his tally this season to 12.

“It’s amazing, Jermain is always there for you,” said the Spurs boss.

Jermain man: Tottenham hero Defoe fires a brace to silence sick Hammers chants

26 Nov
2012

Jermain Defoe scored one of the best goals of his career but it was still not enough to silence the West Ham fans. Two-goal Defoe will never be forgiven by West Ham for leaving them eight-and-a-half years ago and the away supporters will never forget either.

That is just one of the many reasons as to why West Ham hate Tottenham and yet it is still no excuse for some of the chants from the away end at White Hart Lane. West Ham fans chanted abuse at Defoe, sang Lazio songs just three days after a Spurs fan was nearly stabbed to death in Rome and then saved horrific anti-semitic songs until near the end.

Jermain Defoe overtakes Tottenham icon Teddy Sheringham with hat-trick

2012

Jermain Defoe spoke of his pride at overtaking Teddy Sheringham in the Tottenham record books after scoring a fine hat-trick in Thursday night's Europa League demolition of Maribor.

Defoe scored all three goals in the 3-1 win which puts Spurs within one victory of qualifying from Group J with one match to spare. The hat-trick, his first in a Spurs shirt since February 2010, means he now has 126 goals for the north London club - two more than Tottenham icon Sheringham, who he idolised when he was growing up.

"That's special on a personal note as Teddy was a player I watched as a kid," Defoe told ITV. "He was a great player for club and country. It was amazing (to score a hat-trick). As a forward you get judged on scoring goals. It's the best thing in the world but it was important we won the game tonight."

Defoe Sinks Plucky R's at Lane

2012

Tottenham produced a sparkling second-half recovery, with Jermain Defoe scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over QPR at White Hart Lane.

Defoe scored his sixth goal of the season as Tottenham came from behind to register their first home win under Andre Villas-Boas.

A dreadful first-half performance meant Villas-Boas left the pitch at half-time to a chorus of loud boos, but his team turned things around after the break, with Defoe's strike and an own-goal from Alejandro Faurlin handing the Portuguese his first win at White Hart Lane at the fourth attempt.

Bobby Zamora, who scored one goal in 18 appearances at Spurs, put QPR ahead in the first half after Faurlin's brilliant slide-rule pass, and had it not been for a couple of brilliant reaction saves from Brad Friedel, Tottenham could have gone in 3-0 down at half-time.

Jermain grabs goal-d medal as England beat Italy 2:1

22 Aug
2012

JERMAIN DEFOE was England’s golden boy last night as his late winner kept the nation on an Olympic high. The Spurs star fired in an 80th-minute stunner to gain some revenge for the Euro 2012 penalty shootout defeat against Italy.

Defoe, born within a mile of the Olympic Stadium, said: “I would like to dedicate that goal to my cousin, who died in St Lucia last month. It would have been her birthday today.” Hannah Defoe, 20, was electrocuted as she dived into a hotel swimming pool last month. Defoe, 29, was also forced to fly home from England’s Euro 2012 camp in Poland after the death of his 49-year-old father Jimmy from cancer.

The striker’s half-brother Jade, 26, also died in 2009 after falling into a coma following a street attack in east London. Defoe added: “The main thing was to get a win. “Even if you speak to the lads with more caps than me, every time you play you feel like you want to prove something. For a striker it is always important to score.”
